Gutters are built and designed to catch all the water flowing from the top of the roof to avoid unnecessary messy splashing on the ground. In addition, these simple roofing materials are also developed to safeguard the roofing board or fascia of the house. Traditional gutters are made from steel materials which are quite difficult to install, repair, and replace primarily due to its weight. They are also more prone to rust which becomes quite expensive due to the need for constant checkup, repainting works, and repairs. However, there are alternative solutions to this simple problem with the use of aluminum gutters.

Aluminum gutters are the new trend of gutter materials due to many good reasons. Regardless of the type of roofing material, most houses are commonly installed with this type of gutter material mainly due to its easy installation process.

·         Cost – one of the differences between aluminum and steel gutters is their cost. Aluminum tends to be quite inexpensive in a sense that they require less maintenance due to their high resistance to rust. Although these are more expensive when purchased as compared to steel, they are more likely to be more affordable in the long run. In addition, due to the weight of steel it requires more supporting materials which can be an investment to enable it to resist gravity, heavy wind, and extreme weather conditions.

·         Installation – aluminum gutter is by far one of the easiest and simplest gutter materials to set up on the roof due to its lightweight. On the other hand, steel gutter requires professional installation service mainly because of its weight. In addition, it requires more materials such as brackets and other stuffs designed to protect it from falling down. However, these two can be done by any average individual who has knowledge or understanding on how to put up a gutter.

·         Weight – aluminum is known for being among the lightweight materials on the planet. On the other end, steel is among the heaviest which is why it is difficult to put up roofing materials made from steel.

·         Color – although both can be painted and designed with your preferred colors, aluminum gutters are known for their wider range of available colors. In addition to these, aluminum lasts longer due to its resistance to rust which tends to eat off paints that provides or acts as a shield against such deteriorating element. Pre-coated aluminum gutters are cost effective and affordable when viewed in longer terms as they can save you more money on painting works.

·         Erosion – when it comes to erosion, materials that are made from steel have the upper hand though aluminum are also known for their durability against this destructive process. Regardless of its strength, steel also falls susceptible to such problem in the long run without proper care and maintenance. However, this can be prevented or avoided if both are treated or given immediate attention such as the application of enamel coating which is designed to protect the roofing material against magnesium chloride which is a highly corrosive substance.
